Custom Hide was founded in 1994, and ever since then we have been passionate about creating quality leather goods that our customers will love. Our leather briefcases and backpacks are handmade in the United States using the finest materials and craftsmanship, and each piece is a unique work of art. "At Custom Hide, we are passionate about providing our customers with the highest quality, hand-crafted leather briefcases and backpacks at the best prices possible. Our goal is to build a lasting relationship with our customers, based on trust and satisfaction. We do this by providing outstanding products and services, and by offering a satisfaction guarantee on all our products. We want our customers to be completely satisfied with their purchase and to recommend us to their friends and family." We are able to produce a customized leather case that is built to your exact specifications. This means that you don't have to settle for a bag where the details have already been predetermined by the manufacturer. Instead, you can have a bag that is custom-made to fit your needs, so that it will be perfect for the things you carry around with you every day. Detailing a leather product briefcase is the hardest parts of the manufacturing process. Any leather worker with a sewing machine can stitch a couple of leather pieces together but, only a skilled craftsman can create a unique product with all the fine details.
Our expert craftsmen hand-craft our products one at a time; ensuring each piece is crafted with a relentless attention to detail. Each item is created using full-grain leathers, solid metal hardware, polished zippers, and only the highest quality threads.
Our products are finished/crafted with features such as interior full-length zipper pockets, pockets w/snap closures and card holders that make them not only appealing, but also functional for real everyday usage.
Anyone that has accidently dropped a bag on the floor and had things come falling out of it would know how important it is to have a bag with secured interior organizer pockets.
We do not believe in limiting the detailing that goes into our products. A briefcase is a very personal item that you get attached to for many years. As long as the workmanship and the materials are of top notch quality, there is no reason for not having the details/accessories that make a bag complete (in all the years we have been doing business, we have never had an item returned back to us for a zipper or snap repair)
Would you buy a car that does not have cup holders, sun visors or a glove compartment because they might all break down one day? OUR WARRANTY We guarantee the quality of our work by an Unconditional Lifetime Warranty Offering a lifetime warranty is easy, but it doesn't mean much if you don't have a proven record to back it up. Our record speaks for itself: a very low percentage of warranty claims and a loyal customer base that goes back over 30 years. These are the qualities that give our lifetime warranty real meaning. Our customers know that we will stand behind our products, and they have the confidence to buy from us again and again. We have been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 2001 and earned a A+ plus rating by never having received a single complaint.
OUR LEATHERS Our leathers are hand-selected from America's finest tanneries. Like a fingerprint, each one is unique.
Our briefcases are made from 5.5 ounce sturdy full-grain leathers that have been cured with natural vegetable extracts, fat liquors, and organic dyes. The leather is thick and durable, and the natural ingredients help maintain its quality. The vegetable extracts and fat liquors are made from sustainable sources, and the organic dyes are derived from plants. The leathers that we use in our briefcases are specially selected for their beauty and durability. Over time, they develop a rich patina that reflects your personal use and lifestyle. The interiors of our briefcases are lined with supple, full-grain, waterproof leathers, which sets us apart from most manufacturers who use fabric or pigskin. The natural oils in the hides we use provide enough waterproofing for you to take them out in the rain or snow for a couple of hours at a time. We carefully select hides of superior quality to ensure that the finished product has no imperfections. We never alter the markings or texture of the hides; they are original and unique.
Custom Hide Care Instructions We recommend conditioning your Custom Hide product using a good quality conditioner such as "Chamberlain's leather milk" "Lexol" or "ArmorAll 2-3 times a year to replace the natural oils and to prevent it from drying out. If a different product is to be used such as saddle soap, we recommend testing a small area first (e.g. bottom of the case) to find out how the leather reacts. Small scratches and nicks on your Custom Hide product can be best treated by rubbing the affected area firmly with a dampened eyeglass cleaning cloth or a soft tissue which will bring up the natural oils in the leather to the surface (especially during the break in period) If this method proves ineffective, and/or the scratches are deep, we recommend repeating the same procedure with one of the above-mentioned conditioners. STITCHINGS Stitching is very important because it elongates the life of the item. Better stitching means better quality. You'll be able to have that item around for a lot longer when the stitching is perfect. Just by looking at some seams you will be able to tell that it was well-constructed by the elaborate stitching. Make sure the stitching is straight. Crooked stitching and hems probably means it was made by people who aren't professional. If you see a loose thread, go ahead and pull it. If it starts to unravel the stitching, put it back and walk away. One thing will never change: neatness counts. Stitches should be evenly spaced and run parallel to each other.
The D-ring holders that support the handles and shoulder straps of our bags are triple stitched for added strength and durability. This intricate technique is achieved by stitching in the same exact holes three times. The result is a solid support that can withstand the weight of your belongings and the wear and tear of everyday use.
THREADS We use high quality #69 100% polyester thread for reinforced triple stitching the bag together. This is a heavy duty sewing thread that is resistant to chemicals, abrasion, and sunlight. This thread is produced from type 66 filament nylon, the highest grade available. HARDWARE When it comes to hardware, think heavy. Solid brass hardware will feel weighty and sturdy in the hand.
All the metal fittings that go on our products are solid brass to ensure durability. The quality of solid brass makes it costlier than aluminum or plated steel. But unlike those metals, solid brass will not rust, corrode or need to be periodically replaced. So, solid brass will not only give you a lifetime of reliable performance, overall, it will end up saving you a headache.
Antique finish: Throughout our website, you will see our hardware photographed in the antique brass finish. This traditional finish provides contrast which accents the ruggedness of our products. The natural finish of polished brass is shiny. To the contrary, an antique brass finish appears worn with time, is darker than natural brass, and absorbs more light than it reflects.
ZIPPERS All of the document pockets on our Briefcases and accessory pockets on our Backpacks are constructed with high quality YKK plastic zippers with interlocking coils, woven into the zipper webbing. One of the best features of coil zips is the self-mending property. If an unlikely zipper jam occurs, all you need to do is pass the zipper slider back and forth and the coils will straighten out without any further problems. The zippers are covered by the same lifetime warranty on our products. In all the years we have been doing business, we have never had a briefcase or a backpack returned back to us for a zipper repair)
Zipper Facts Plastic zippers are much less likely to break, and jam up than metal zippers. Plastic zippers are easier to zip up and require less maintenance. Coil zips are stronger than solid plastic tooth zips. Larger zips are not necessary stronger. Metal zippers are typically rough and scratchy, so getting your hand in-and-out of pockets would not be as comfortable, though it could be a good way to exfoliate your skin. CONSTRUCTION We only use solid pieces of hide in the production of our designs. In our briefcases, a steel metal bar is bar built into the top under the handle for added support and durability. All the other parts, including the shoulder strap are constructed with the same emphasis on strength and reinforced with solid brass rivets at the pressure points.
The shoulder straps on our backpacks are constructed from two layers of heavy-duty leather for extra durability and built wider than usual for extra comfort.
